However, they can be demanding and their loud calls may not be suitable for apartment living or close neighbors. They are intelligent and social birds that require plenty of mental stimulation and social interaction. Females lay up to three eggs and both parents will incubate and rear the young. Grey Cockatoos, also identified as Gang-gang Cockatoos stand out as a captivating species boasting distinctive physical traits. Gang gang cockatoos can make good pets for experienced bird owners who can provide them with the time, attention, and care they need. They begin breeding at four years old and breed between October and January. They are relatively quite except for a pleasant squeaky call. They nest in deep hollows in trees and pairs will usually return to the same tree every year. They are sociable birds and relatively quiet especially when compared to the Sulphur-crested Cockatoos that can be very noisy. Personality - Gang-gang cockatoos are very tame and gentle by nature. Call a distinctive screech that sounds similar to the creaking sound of a door being opened. Females have a dark grey head and crest, with the feathers on the breast being edged yellow and pink. I don't think any ofthe more rare black toos ever made it over except for the BPs. Males have a distinctive orange-red head with a small floppy red crest. I have always wanted a gang-gang pair and a Carnaby's too- over here the Gang- gangs are super rare, probably on the cites list, and 10,000s. Wings and upperparts of feathers a lighter pale-grey producing a barred appearance. ![]()
